 2017 Preview 


       Fort Dale Academy completed the 2016 season with a 8-3 record. With their 3-2 region record and a third place finish in Class AAA region two, the Eagles earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Fort Dale Academy's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Glenwood School by a score of 35-14.

       Since 2010, Fort Dale Academy has gone a combined 46-33. Their 58.0% winning percentage ranks 6th in Class AAA over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Fort Dale Academy has managed to compile a record of 191-106. Their 64.0% winning percentage ranks 4th in Class AAA and 7th in the AISA. The Eagles have been successful on the football field with twenty-one winning seasons during this time.

       The Eagles are led by head coach James Sampley who is entering his nineteenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 133-74 over the past eighteen seasons at Fort Dale Academy. Under his direction the Eagles have qualified for the playoffs a total of sixteen times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Sampley. Coach Sampley led Fort Dale Academy to a state championship in 2010.

       Coach Sampley's overall record as a head football coach in twenty-three season stands at 174-92 (65.4%). His 174 wins rank th among active coaches in the AISA. Over the course of his career, Coach Sampley's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of twenty-one times and won four region championships. Coach Sampley won a state championship at in 1997.

       The Fort Dale Academy Eagles will play in Class AAA region two during the 2017 season.

       The Eagles should be in contention for a playoff spot in region two this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game.

       The Eagles open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Evangel Christian Academy on Friday, August 25 at Fort Dale Stadium. Last year the Evangel Christian Academy Lions finished with an overall record of 4-7 and in third place in Class AA region one. The Lions lost in the first round of the Class AA playoffs to Escambia Academy by a score of 49-6.

       Fort Dale Academy and Evangel Christian Academy have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 4-0-0 record against the Lions. They last met in 2016 with Fort Dale Academy winning by a score of 40-12.
